Chip's SOG session. 8-player Bohnanza, 5-player Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers, 2-player Dvonn, 3-player Cave Troll, 6-player Elfenland, 2-player Magic: the Gathering.

Bohnanza

Players were Sara, Leah, Chip, Liz, Harlan, Ralph, Nancy, myself. New players to the game were: Sara, Leah, Chip, Harlan, Nancy. Nancy had the first turn.

We spent 9 minutes going over the rules.

Chip was into the trading aspect of the game, trying to get rid of his black-eyed beans before he even had a turn. What a spirited gamer!

The game itself was a lot of fun, if chaotic. Players had to pay attention and be assertive, otherwise deals were made before they could zone-in. Very different from a game with less people.

Ralph was freely giving cards away, so as to not be stuck with them -- mostly to Harlan. I was sitting patiently on valuable but fairly rare beans.

Leah caught on to the idea of the game early on, for the win.

Game lasted 73 minutes. Final scores were:

Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers

Players were Liz, Harlan, Ralph, Leah, myself. New players to the game were: Liz, Harlan, Leah. Harlan had the first turn.

We spent 7 minutes going over the rules.

Not much of note happened during this game. Liz and Leah didn't have any huts at all at the end of the game.

I'm so dense at this game, patiently waiting for long term scores. I should be going for quick and dirty scores.

Dvonn

Players were Ralph, myself. Vitas:Ralph:Vitas had the first turn.

Just three quick games of Dvonn as a filler. Ralph noted that it doesn't really matter what you do at the beginning of the game, that all the clever winning moves happen at the end of the game. Chip injected that setting up pieces, as in chess, is important early on, to defend pieces.

Games lasted 8 minutes each. Final scores were:

Cave Troll

Players were Nancy, Ralph, myself. I had the first turn.

I drew a cave troll early on which didn't do the expected mayhem except keep a five point room clear near the monster pit.

A scoring round was kicked of soon after that by Ralph.

Ralph kept pushing tokens into the dungeon to speed the end game to his advantage.

I was often shuffling adventurers out of my favorite rooms because other explorers kept barging in. Maybe a good strategy is to get low scoring rooms, then push into high scoring rooms.

Elfenland

Players were Chip, Ralph, Liz, Sara, Leah, myself. New players to the game were: Liz, Leah. Sara had the first turn.

We spent 20 minutes going over the rules.

What can I say. People put down tokens, played their cards. I bewailed my misfortune. Liz often asked whose turn it was when it was her turn.

Elfenland

Magic: the Gathering

Players were Chip, myself. I had the first turn.

Chip and I had to feed our addiction after everyone left.

I brought my newly created decks out, in the theory that even if I lose, I'll have the satisfaction of playing my own decks. Good thing, too, because I lost every game.

We played four games: three different decks for the first three, then our favorites for the final game.

Chip's first deck had some weanie creatures which held me off until he could do enough direct damage to kill me.

Chip's second deck had some dark rituals which helped him bring out some tougher creatures early on, which whittled me away until I had no defenses.

Chip's third deck was an enchantment specialty... his hope to enchant one creature with ancestral mask and armadillo cloaks to trample me to victory.

Chip's final deck went back to the red weanie deck of the first game.

I'm not even going to bother mentioning my decks because they lost.

Each game lasted about eight turns.

Games lasted 10-15 minutes each. Final scores were:
