Home

Josh's SOG session. 4-player ZooSim, 4-player Und Tschuss!, 3-player ZooSim, 5-player Power Grid.

ZooSim

Players were Josh, Mark, Lowell, myself. New players to the game were: Mark, Lowell.

The first session of ZooSim, Josh started out losing all auctions. Though this seemed like a setback, it actually gave him more money to work with in later turns, seeing that other players overbid a lot.

In the end, Josh controlled which pieces he ended up with.

My second time playing this game.

I decided to try for the second card when I could, unless I had high cards sure to beat everyone for the third card. I figured other people would swap victory for the higher cards and balance out.

The cards were mostly positive this time around, so scores were fairly close.

ZooSim

Players were Sara, Chip, myself. New players to the game were: Sara, Chip.

Sara started out in the lead, but she payed heavily to do it. This ended up frustrating her in subsequent turns because she could rarely win an auction after that.

The game was really between Chip and myself. He was careful to bid well for tiles which would put him at an advantage. He also kept track of how much other players had left so he could anticipate their bids.

In the end, Chip won a fair and challenging game. (Sorry, Sara! I hope you'll get the hang of it next time.)

Power Grid

Players were Mark, Lowell, Mike, Josh, myself. New players to the game were: Mark, Lowell. Mark had the first turn.

We played the German game board, which was the first time for me. Mike changed one connection from 21 to 12 because he thought it was a misprint, considering a player could follow two links for less in that case.

This game, Josh tried to expand quickly, unlike the previous game, to keep growing his cities cheaply.

It seemed that Mike and Lowell were competing for space.

I still haven't groked this game. I tried to keep cities and power plants even, quite successfully, but I still came out with the lowest score. Mike seemed to be strapped for cities and kept buying more expensive power plants, and he won with money to spare.
