Rusty Scabbard session. 6-player World of Warcraft, 6-player Formula De, 7-player Formula De.

World of Warcraft

Players were Shaun, Tom, Dave, Scott, Josh/Chris, myself. New players to the game were: Shaun, Tom, Dave, Scott, Josh/Chris, myself. Shaun, Tom and Dave had the first turn.

We spent 60 minutes going over the rules and setting up the game.

Game Overview

World of Warcraft is a role-playing wargame.

Players are divided into two teams.

Each team gets a turn, and each player has two actions from the following list. 1. Move up to two spaces. 2. Engage in combat. 3. Buy, sell and heal & recharge in town. 4. Rest 5. Train

There are monsters to defeat which are quest monsters. Players are rewarded gold, experience and items for defeating a quest, which is then replaced with a new quest.

The game lasts for thrirty turns, after which the final battle is engaged. The final battle is against a boss monster or the teams against each other.

The surviving team is the winner.

Session Overview

Well, I've recently moved to Lexington, Kentucky for a new job. So, I've decided to rekindle my online game journal to spark interest in board gaming in this area, and to re-connect with gamers from my past.

Shaun played Bandon Lightstone (Blue team) Tom played Sandrai Darlshine (Blue team) Dave played Meadow Frey (Red team) Scott played Thundershot (Red team) Josh/Chris played Dongon Swiftblade (Red team) I played Weefla Sorrowfall (who I called Priestess Leia for the buns in her hair.) (Blue team)

This game was slow to start because none of us knew the rules. I liken it to Arkham Horror which seem to have very complex rules, but is manageable once you play the game and have a decent reference sheet.

We got some of the rules wrong, like how many items to draw for finishing a quest, or noticing the number of creatures to put out for each quest, but we fixed our play as we went along.

We were fairly even in completing quests. Josh left early and Chris took over for him, but that character went off on his own completing quests and gaining experience quicker than the other pair. I did the same thing on my team.

We decided to end the game after the sixth turn and battle each other. they did 13 points of damage to us, whereas we did nine points to them. Considering we had only one hit point each on our side after that exchange, we conceded.

Formula De

Players were Chris, Mike, Shawn, Tom, Dave, myself. New players to the game were: Mike, Dave.

Game Overview

This is a die-rolling game with a racing theme.

Basically, a player chooses a valid gear, and rolls the appropriate dice (not numbered normally, but with an appropriate range of numbers for the given gear) and moves that number of spaces on the track. The track is huge. Then, taking turns, players must stop the appropriate number of times on them, or bad things happen.

Session Overview

Chris is very enthusiastic about this game and we'll have a store tournament of Formula De starting in two weeks that will run for eight weeks. We'll keep score for all players during that time and there might be a reward for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place scores at the end of the tournament.

We played two laps on Chris' newly bought track #34. I didn't even know there were new tracks beyond the 10th anniversary track, so this was a treat. The track has some long stretches followed by 2 and 3 stop curves. Nasty -- players aoften try to shoot through the straight-a-ways and encounter problems at the turns!

This game, the interesting things that happened:

Chris didn't make it past the 2nd curve before crashing.

Mike lost control and crashed. I plowed into him -- didn't even think to just give him wide-berth.

Shawn was in the lead, but forgot to downshift towards the end. This caused him to be in the wrong gear letting Dave pass him for the win.

Formula De

Players were Chris, Shawn, Andy, Karl, Tom, Dave, myself. Karl was a new player to the game.

Session Overview

We played two laps on track #35 which was as challenging as track #34, in that it had long stretches encouraging high speeds, ending in tight curves causing no end of problems.

The interesting things here is:

Andy dropped out early on.

Karl started out in last place, but with shrewd decisions, he made it to the close end of the game, giving Dave a close run until the final curve. He seems pretty good at dice games given an earlier session of Liar's Dice.

I was all over the map until I forget a second stop in a curve and crashed.

Dave was behind until all the aggressive players cleared themselves out of his way for the win.
