I think I'm finally getting the hang of this game -- I didn't come in last for once.
I think the trick is to make sure you limit your growth to one or two resources while getting high value cards for your rank. I used to spread myself then trying to keep up in every possible way I could score, and that just meant I was behind in everything!

Having gone from Border's to Panera, due to an overly amplified flute performer, we didn't have much time for another long game, so Liar's Dice filled the gap.
